The final draft of the amended constitution will be ready on 3 December for a nationwide referendum, according to Mostafa Hegazy, the political adviser to interim-President Adly Mansour.
Speaking at the Euromoney 2013 conference, Hegazy said the referendum is slated to take place by the end of December or beginning of January, followed by legislative elections. He added that presidential elections would fall sometime during next summer.
Leaders spearheading the transitional period following the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in June have vowed to rewrite the Islamist-backed constitution and supervise the election of a new president and legislature.
Hegazy said Egypt’s stability would affect the whole region, adding that achieving this regional stability is of core importance to his administration.
He further outlined that there are no plans to reshape ties with regards to Palestine and Israel, while also stressing the importance of African ties for Egypt. Strengthening these ties is paramount for Egypt in its chase to regain regional posture, he said.
