Day three of play at the All England Club featured the two biggest stars of the men’s game: world number one Novak Djokovic and seven-time champion Roger Federer. And both got the job done against low-ranked opposition.
Roger Federer, ranked world number 2, won the 23rd Halle Open competition, which is also within the ATP World Tour 500 series.
Djokovic’s path to the final witnessed an easy win against the Canadian Vasek Pospisil.
Federer achieved his 1,000th victory in his professional career to enter the club of thousands alongside Americans Jimmy Connors, with 1,253 victories, and Ivan Lendl, with 1,071 victories.
The match will take place between Federer, who took first place in the Davis Cup with his country’s team only five days ago, and Hewitt on 12 December in Sydney, Australia.
