Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat met with a delegation from Orascom Construction, headed by CEO Osama Bishai, to review progress on the 900 MW Ras Shukeir wind power project and stress the need to adhere to its timetable and take the necessary measures to connect it to the national electricity grid.
The meeting also reviewed the operational performance of the company’s projects already connected to the grid in the Gulf of Suez and Ras Ghareb areas.
The meeting comes as part of the ministry’s continuous monitoring of implementation progress across renewable energy projects, aimed at ensuring compliance with schedules for project completion and grid connection.
During the meeting, Esmat reviewed the operational status of Orascom’s projects with a combined capacity of 912.5 MW, as well as their actual power generation rates throughout the day.
The meeting discussed the current implementation status of the 900 MW Ras Shukeir wind power project and the work plan for the coming period in line with the project timetable.
The project is being implemented in two phases. The first phase, with a capacity of 300 MW, is scheduled to be connected to the grid in December 2027, while the second phase, with a capacity of 600 MW, is scheduled for completion and grid connection in June 2028.
The meeting also discussed progress on the transmission lines being developed to evacuate electricity generated by the project and connect it to the national grid.
Discussions also addressed the importance of continuous monitoring and overcoming any difficulties or challenges that could arise during implementation to prevent delays and ensure adherence to schedules for completing the works and connecting the projects to the national electricity grid. This is intended to support the targets of the National Energy Strategy.
Esmat said projects being implemented under the National Energy Strategy are subject to continuous monitoring, stressing the importance of adhering to the timetable for each project and connecting them to the grid on schedule.
He said the necessary support is being provided to accelerate project implementation in light of developments in the work plan, the expansion of renewable energy projects and energy storage systems, and the target of increasing clean energy’s contribution to the energy mix to 45% by 2028.
This expansion is also intended to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, support grid stability, and ensure secure electricity supplies.
The electricity minister stressed the importance of working with private-sector partners to take the necessary measures to accelerate project implementation, shorten delivery times, and compress project schedules, praising cooperation with Orascom Construction.
