Egypt firmly rejects any unilateral measures that would compromise the territorial integrity or diminish the sovereignty of Somalia, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty told his Somali counterpart during a phone call on Tuesday.

Speaking with Somali Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali to discuss developments in the Horn of Africa, Abdelatty underscored the necessity of providing sustainable funding for the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia, noting Egypt’s participation in the force. He emphasised the critical need to retain, support, and finance both the African Union mission and the United Nations Support Office in Somalia to preserve the country’s security, stability, and unity.

Reaffirming Cairo’s full backing for Somalia’s unity and national institutions, Abdelatty confirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting the building of the Somali state. He highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance Somalia’s institutional capacities, particularly in combating terrorism and extremism.

In response, the Somali foreign minister commended Egypt’s continuous support at various levels and its firm stance regarding Somalia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Ali affirmed Mogadishu’s desire to maintain close coordination and consultation with Cairo to serve the mutual interests of both nations.

Addressing broader bilateral ties, Abdelatty praised the growing momentum in Egyptian-Somali relations, expressing a shared keenness to advance their strategic partnership across political and economic sectors.
