Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, and Minister of Local Development and Environment, Manal Awad, are following up on the aftermath of a road accident in Ismailia governorate that left 15 people dead and 32 others injured, according to a preliminary toll.
The accident occurred in the Dawawis area of Tal El Kebir, near the Youth Power Station road link. The Ministry of Health said the crash involved a pickup truck carrying workers that overturned, while the Ministry of Local Development and Environment described it as a collision between two workers’ transport vehicles.
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, said the ministry’s crisis and emergency room is monitoring the situation in coordination with the Healthcare Authority and the Ismailia Health Directorate.
He said hospitals had been placed on high alert, with medical teams, medicines and the necessary supplies mobilised to treat the injured.
According to the latest preliminary update, 32 injured people were transferred to Al-Qassasin Central Hospital to receive medical care, while efforts are continuing to complete data collection and monitor their conditions.
The health minister instructed medical teams to provide the highest level of care to the injured and closely monitor their recovery, Abdel Ghaffar said.
Separately, Manal Awad held a phone call with Ismailia Governor Nabil El-Sayed Hasaballah to review the latest developments and the response by the governorate’s executive and health authorities.
Awad instructed the governor to continue monitoring the situation, coordinate with all relevant agencies, provide full support to the injured, and ensure that financial assistance and the necessary aid are delivered to the families of those killed and injured.
She said the ministry is monitoring the situation around the clock through direct coordination with Ismailia’s executive authorities and the National Emergency and Public Safety Network.
During the call, the governor briefed Awad on the measures taken after the accident was reported to the governorate’s emergency operations centre, including coordination through the national network and the transfer of the injured to hospitals for treatment.
The ministries of Health and Population and Local Development and Environment extended their condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
