Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met on Tuesday with Minister of Youth and Sports Gohar Nabil to review preparations for Egypt’s hosting of the 2027 African Games, which will serve as a qualifying event for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Madbouly stressed that the government considers developing Egypt’s sports sector a national priority, alongside providing continued support to the country’s various national teams.

He said the government would provide all necessary resources to ensure the successful organisation of the African Games, citing Egypt’s world-class sports infrastructure and extensive experience in hosting major international sporting events.

The prime minister also underscored the importance of preparing Egypt’s athletes to achieve strong results at the Games, building on the momentum generated by the national football team’s achievement at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

During the meeting, Nabil reviewed the organisational and technical measures being implemented as part of the preparations for the 2027 African Games, as well as ongoing coordination with African sports institutions.

He also noted that Egypt supports proposals to expand the number of sports included in the African qualification events for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, giving African athletes greater opportunities to qualify for the Olympics.

Nabil said Egypt has the organisational, technical, and logistical capabilities needed to deliver an exceptional edition of the African Games, reflecting the country’s leading position in African and international sport.

The minister also outlined the key elements of the technical preparation plans submitted by Egypt’s Olympic federations for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, including qualification pathways, target teams, athletes expected to qualify, and promising teams with medal-winning potential.

He reviewed the support being provided to national teams and elite athletes through domestic and overseas training camps, participation in continental and international competitions, sports medicine programmes, and other initiatives aimed at ensuring peak athletic performance.

Nabil added that the Ministry of Youth and Sports is coordinating with relevant ministries and government agencies, the Egyptian Olympic Committee, and national sports federations to review preparation programmes and funding mechanisms for Egypt’s Olympic teams.

The objective, he said, is to help Egypt achieve results that reflect the country’s sporting stature on the international stage while ensuring full operational readiness to host the 2027 African Games successfully.
