Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, met with Sherif Helmy, Chairperson of the Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA), and Osama El Metbouly, Head of the Ministry’s Security Sector, to review implementation of the physical protection plan, developments related to the security city at the project site, preparations for the arrival of nuclear fuel in the next phase, and overall progress on the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project. The meeting also focused on ensuring compliance with the project plan and timetable for connection to the national electricity grid.

The meeting was held within the framework of Egypt’s energy transition plan and national energy strategy, which aim to diversify electricity generation sources, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and expand renewable and clean energy. It also forms part of Egypt’s peaceful nuclear programme for electricity generation and the ongoing monitoring of implementation progress at the Dabaa project.

Helmy and El Metbouly presented a detailed briefing on the security plan and measures being implemented in coordination with relevant authorities, including the use of modern technologies in internal and external security arrangements. The presentation covered the implementation of the site’s physical protection plan, progress on the security city, and other safety requirements related to the nuclear power plant.

The briefing also included an overview of specialised training programmes, the number of personnel already trained, those currently undergoing preparation for further courses, and the examinations and assessments required.

The meeting reviewed progress in implementing the project according to the approved plan and schedule, as well as measures taken recently to accelerate implementation in coordination with the Russian side. Discussions covered completion rates for different stages of the project and adherence to the approved work programme and timetable.

The presentation further addressed achievements realised in implementation and highlighted domestic and overseas training programmes for employees and operational teams.

The Minister of Electricity stressed that implementation of the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project is proceeding according to plan, noting the continuous follow-up and commitment of all parties involved in Egypt, Russia, and international companies participating in the project to the timetable for completing works, finalising phases, and connecting the plant to the grid.

He added that the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project reflects the depth and strength of relations between Egypt and Russia and demonstrates the success of the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Esmat highlighted the special importance of the Dabaa project within the framework of Egypt’s peaceful nuclear programme for electricity generation, the national energy strategy, and the electricity sector’s action plan, which is based on an energy mix that diversifies generation sources, expands reliance on renewable and clean energy, and reduces dependence on fossil fuels.
