Cairo International Airport passenger traffic rose 37% to 31m in 2025 as the facility prepares to launch a comprehensive new mobile application for travellers by the end of May, the chairperson of the Holding Company for Airports said.

Speaking on the sidelines of a ceremony marking the 63rd anniversary of the airport’s opening, Ayman Arab said the new cyber-secure application follows two years of development. The platform connects to all airport databases, allowing travellers to check flight schedules, book airline tickets, and reserve internal services such as limousines, aiming to reduce reliance on paper procedures and enhance the passenger experience.

The digital push coincides with a leap in passenger numbers, with Arab noting the airport now operates at a capacity of 71,000 travellers daily, reinforcing its position as the primary gateway for Egypt and the African continent.

Magdy Ishak, chairperson and CEO of the Cairo Airport Company, said the notable growth in navigation traffic was achieved despite regional tensions related to the Iranian-American conflict. Ishak added that the company has prioritised the installation of modern technical systems to raise safety standards and ensure the smooth flow of passengers.

Alongside the public application, the Holding Company for Airports has launched a comprehensive internal digital transformation system this month. Administrative approvals are now processed electronically through an internally developed operational system that features electronic signatures and maintains a complete archive of official communications to increase transparency and accelerate decision-making.

Documents are registered with an outgoing number and date on company servers, which will be linked to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and digitised alongside other companies. Arab said the system will be opened to the permanent agent, technical offices, and other companies to eliminate approval delays that previously took days.

Following employee training, all paper is being withdrawn from the company and recorded digitally to save energy, ink, and paper in support of environmental conservation, a move monitored and supported by regulatory authorities.

Arab concluded that the upcoming period will witness the continuous development and improvement of any launched systems, adding that making mistakes teaches development and improvement, which is a recognised norm.
