Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will travel to Egypt on Wednesday for talks covering bilateral cooperation and regional developments, including the Palestinian issue, Türkiye’s ambassador to Cairo Salih Mutlu Şen said.

Şen said Erdogan will begin the trip with a visit to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday at the invitation of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Discussions in Riyadh are expected to focus on additional steps to deepen Turkish-Saudi relations, as well as regional and international issues.

Following the Riyadh visit, Erdogan will head to Cairo at the invitation of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. The two leaders will co-chair the second meeting of the Turkish-Egyptian High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, according to the ambassador.

Talks in Egypt are expected to cover key items on the bilateral agenda and include an exchange of views on regional and international developments, with a particular focus on the Palestinian issue.

Erdogan is also scheduled to attend a Turkish-Egyptian business forum during the visit.

The trip comes amid improving relations between Ankara and Cairo after years of strained ties. Erdogan visited Egypt in February 2024, marking his first trip to Cairo since 2012.

Mustafa Denizer, head of the Turkish-Egyptian Business Council, said the visit could pave the way for new partnerships, particularly in the energy and defence sectors.

Denizer told Anadolu Agency that trade between the two countries currently stands at around $10bn, with a target of increasing it to $15bn in the coming period. He added that Turkish investments in Egypt are expected to expand, especially in textiles, tourism and ready-made garments.
