Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Tuesday witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Egypt and Sweden aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in the health and medical fields.
The MoU was signed between Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population and Sweden’s Ministry of Health and Social Affairs. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population, signed on behalf of Egypt, while Elisabet Lann, Sweden’s Minister for Healthcare, signed on behalf of Sweden. The signing ceremony was attended by Dag Juhlin-Dannfelt, Sweden’s Ambassador to Cairo.
The agreement comes within the framework of the strong relations between Egypt and Sweden and reflects the mutual commitment of both sides to deepen cooperation through the exchange of expertise and best practices in public health. The MoU aims to support the development of health systems and improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare services provided to citizens.
Prime Minister Madbouly said the agreement aligns with Egypt’s efforts to strengthen international cooperation in the medical field and benefit from leading global experiences. He noted that such partnerships support the government’s ongoing initiatives to enhance healthcare services and achieve the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
The MoU seeks to promote cooperation across a number of priority areas, including the development of “One Health” strategies to support public health, the exchange of expertise in establishing and operating public health control centres, and exploring opportunities to utilise modern technologies and their applications within the healthcare sector.
It also covers cooperation in developing primary healthcare services, maternal and child health, and facilitating collaboration between specialised medical centres and research institutions in both countries, in addition to any other areas agreed upon in the future.
Abdel Ghaffar said the signing of the MoU marks an important step towards deepening health cooperation between Egypt and Sweden. He added that the agreement reflects Egypt’s commitment to building international partnerships in the healthcare sector and benefiting from advanced expertise to strengthen the health system’s capacity to address current and future challenges.
He further noted that cooperation with Sweden opens new avenues for exchanging expertise in public health, scientific research, and the application of modern technologies in the health sector, in line with Egypt’s digital transformation agenda, the Sustainable Development Goals, and Egypt Vision 2030.
