The Arab League will hold an extraordinary session at the level of permanent delegates in attendance in Cairo, on Monday, at the request of Palestine.

The meeting will be chaired by Qatar, the current president of the Arab League Council.

Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, said the meeting will discuss Israeli crimes and attacks against Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem, especially the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and attacks on worshipers.

Zaki added that the meeting will also deal with Israeli plans to seize the homes of Jerusalem residents, especially in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood. He said that this was an attempt to empty the holy city of its residents, and displace its people.

Palestine’s Ambassador in Cairo Diab Al-Louh said that the meeting must produce decisions and practical measures that rise to the level of this unprecedented catastrophic event. It should also deliver a unified Arab message from the Arab League.

This message affirms the necessity to provide the necessary international protection for the Palestinian people against such systematic practices, continuous violations and dangerous escalatory steps.

He stressed that the attack on the Al-Aqsa Mosque requires swift action and measures to prevent the continuation of these violations. This would look to restrain the foreign settlers, and to stop their criminal practices against the Palestinian people.

In the same context, the Arab Parliament will hold an emergency session on 19 May, in Cairo, to discuss the ongoing violations committed by the Israeli occupation authorities in the occupied city of Jerusalem.

In a statement on Sunday, Arab Parliament Head Adel bin Abdul-Rahman Al-Asoumi said, “The holding of this emergency session comes out of the Arab Parliament carrying out its national responsibility in supporting the Palestinian cause as the Arabs’ first issue.”

He called for an end to the ongoing crimes committed by Israel against the Palestinian people, and support for all their rights. Foremost of these is the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
