Abdul-Wahab testimony turns into goal festival

By Ahmad Saied

Tens of thousands of Egyptians packed the Military Academy Stadium on Wednesday to bid farewell to Al Ahli s late star Mohamed Abdul Wahab, whose testimonial game turned into a goal-festival.

Supporters for different Egyptian clubs attended the testimonial, carrying giant photos of Abdul Wahab and chanting his name.

A selection of Ahli-Ismaili players beat an ENPPI-Zamalek team 5-2 in the main part of the testimony.

All the participating players wore the number 3 jersey of Abdul-Wahab and limited goals celebrations to just simple gestures.

Flavio Amado, Shadi Mohamed, Mohamed Abou-Treika, Hassan Mostafa and Emad Meteb scored for the winners while Reda Metwalli and Hossam Mabrouk notched goals for the other side.

Pop band WAMA played a religious track during half-time and pop singer Ehab Tawfiq sang a specially-dedicated song to the former international defender.

Abdule Wahab, 23, collapsed in Ahli s training earlier in September and was declared dead when he arrived at hospital due to a heart failure.

The revenues of the testimony are set to be donated to his family, who will also receive a fee of a three-year contract that was due to be signed between Ahli and the player.

Meteb s case postponed to November seventh

By Hatem Maher

Al Ahli striker Emad Meteb s case, in which he was accused of assaulting two policemen in October last year, has been postponed to Nov. 7.

The court postponed the case to listen to the remaining witnesses, Ahli spokesman Muharam Al-Ragheb told FilGoal.com on Tuesday.

The court was due to announce its final verdict today but opted for a delay.

The Egyptian international striker, accompanied by a famous singer, reportedly assaulted two policemen in a road trap where he was asked to show his driving license.

Meteb consistently denied the charge over the last year in the media.

ENPPI launch inquiry over poor results

By filgoal.com staff

ENPPI launched an inquiry to find out the reasons behind the team s poor results in the Egyptian League this season, the club said on Sunday.

The administration summoned German coach Rainer Zobel to discuss the team displays over the past period.

ENPPI collected five points out of as many games and moved down to 11th spot after losing to Arab Contractors 2-1 on Saturday.

Zobel told reporters that he will file a report to the board of directors, accusing some players of being not disciplined and individual-playing.

He did, however, refuse to name the players.

The club decided not to wait to find out who will be mentioned in the report, deciding to fine every player LE 10,000 and halt their wages till results get better.

Assistant coach Khaled Metwalli said that widespread changes are expected in the starting line-up for the next league game.
