Security forces launched an operation in the governorate of Sohag on Monday morning in response to a shooting that killed a policeman and injured another on Sunday night, reported state owned Al-Ahram.

The operation, in the village of Al-Atamnah in the Tama district, resulted in the death of one person and the injury of a police sergeant. Security forces moved into the village using four armoured vehicles and five armoured police vehicles as well as combat units, reported Al-Ahram.

Citing a security force, Al-Ahram said the man who died was primary school teacher Mohamed Mostafa Abdel Awad, who was reportedly the prime suspect in Sunday night’s shooting.

The wounded policeman who is now receiving treatment is Sergeant Emad Bernaza.
