CAIRO: Ambulance drivers have called off a strike after winning some concessions from Land and River Specialized Ambulance Center bosses.
Drivers began the strike and sit-in on Wednesday evening in protest at the conditions of their employment.
About 150 drivers are employed at the Ambulance Center, which opened a year ago.
Driver Hamada El-Khatib confirmed to Daily News Egypt that drivers called off the action Thursday evening.
“We had a meeting with management during which they promised that we will receive health insurance in July and that conditions will improve generally, El-Khatib said.
“They have said that these promises will be implemented within three days, and have given us written pledges to this effect. If they’re not we’ll resume the strike, he continued.
The workers had complained about long working hours without proper compensation, the lack of health insurance and contracts that don’t secure their jobs or protect their rights.
