Land Rover Egypt sales up 49 pct

CAIRO: Earlier this month, MTI Automotive, Land Rover’s sole importer in the country, reported a 49 percent increase in car sales for 2008.

In a statement, the company said the year saw the strongest sales record in the company’s 60-year history in Egypt.

Leading the sales was the Range Rover Sport, with a growth of 15 percent.

Ahmed El-Gharib, general manager of MTI Automotive, said, “Our impressive 2008 results are due to the commitments of our team, adding that sales for The Range Rover and Land Rover LR3 were particularly robust.

“Egypt is the biggest market in North Africa for both vehicles, he said.

Land Rover sales for the Middle East and North Africa were up 20 percent, selling a total of 11,061 vehicles.

Morocco saw a 25 percent increase in sales, on back of the popularity of the Range Rover Sport and the LR2. Algeria witnessed a growth of 267 percent over the previous year, followed by Tunisia with an increase of 200 percent, the company said.

MTI Automotive is also the sole importer of Jaguar, Bentley, Maserati and Ferrari.

The company is part of MM Group, which was established in 1895.
