Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has ordered the swift finalisation of an initiative offering incentives to encourage the installation of solar panels in factories and homes, aiming to reduce pressure on the national electricity grid and natural gas supplies, the government said on Monday.
During a meeting to review the “Encouraging the Installation of Solar Panels in Factories and Homes” initiative, Madbouly directed officials to prepare the final version of the scheme for Cabinet approval. The plan will include an integrated promotional strategy detailing the targeted incentives and facilitations designed to boost adoption rates and expand the use of renewable energy sources.
The initiative targets the installation of solar units in industrial complexes, large factories, and residential buildings to lower electricity consumption.
Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Essmat presented the general framework, proposed implementation mechanisms, and targeted incentives to the Prime Minister. Essmat noted that the scheme supports state efforts to increase the share of renewable energy in the country’s energy mix and enhance resource efficiency.
Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem confirmed full coordination with the Electricity Ministry on the technical, executive, and logistical aspects of the initiative. Hashem outlined ongoing efforts with financing institutions and the Federation of Egyptian Industries to provide suitable funding mechanisms that encourage factories to adopt solar energy. He stated that expanding solar power usage will help lower production costs and boost the competitiveness of the national industry.
