Egypt has designated the food industry as one of 28 priority investment opportunities targeted for deeper local manufacturing, Deputy Prime Minister Kamel Al-Wazir said on Tuesday, as the government seeks to boost high-value exports.

Speaking at the inauguration of the 10th “Food Africa” exhibition, Al-Wazir stated that the sector was selected based on its capacity to deliver high added value, sustainable growth, and extensive job creation across the value chain from production to the final product.

Al-Wazir, who also serves as Minister of Industry and Transport, described the exhibition as a strategic tool to establish Egyptian leadership in African markets. He noted that the event connects local exporters with international importers to open new trade windows and arrange field visits to export-oriented farms and factories.

The exhibition, one of the region’s largest for agricultural and food industries, features over 1,200 companies from 45 countries. It covers sectors including agriculture, packaging, food machinery, and dates, drawing buyers from Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.

During a tour of the venue, the minister visited pavilions from the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Russia, Germany, India, and Turkey.

The opening ceremony was attended by Hani Berzi, the exhibition’s honorary president, and Ashraf El-Gazayerli, head of the Chamber of Food Industries, alongside various ambassadors and representatives from export councils and the Federation of Egyptian Industries.
