Egypt has discussed the potential rehabilitation of Iraqi factories and the upgrading of production lines during high-level talks at the EDEX 2025 defence exhibition, Minister of State for Military Production Mohamed Salah said.
During a meeting with Iyad Kazim Jabbar, Director General of the Legal Department at Iraq’s Defence Industries Commission, Salah highlighted the possibility of cooperation in supplying the Iraqi side with military and civilian products.
“Real peace requires a deterrent force to protect it,” Mustafa told the delegation, adding that his ministry is committed to continuously developing its defence products to keep pace with global technologies.
Jabbar noted that the Iraqi commission, established following a parliamentary vote on Law No. 25 of 2019, aims to build a developed base for military industries to meet the needs of the armed forces and security agencies. He expressed interest in opening horizons for cooperation given the compatibility of both parties’ visions.
Separately, Salah met with a delegation from Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI). The Saudi representatives expressed a desire to establish strategic partnerships with Egyptian military production companies, citing their manufacturing capabilities and human expertise.
The minister also held talks with a Philippine military delegation, where both sides agreed to exchange technical visits to assess capabilities on the ground and identify specific areas for future integration.
Mustafa stated that while the ministry’s primary mission is to meet the demands of the Armed Forces and police for weapons, ammunition, and electronic systems, it also utilises surplus production capacities to manufacture civilian goods and contribute to national projects.
