EiTESAL for Information and Communication Technology has announced the launch of a technical training initiative in the field of information technology for persons with disabilities.

Hossam Megahed, Chairperson of EiTESAL, said that the organisation cooperated with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) to offer training opportunities for people with disabilities in preparing for employing them in telecommunications and technology companies.

He added that he participated in a meeting with more than 100 companies from EiTESAL members, whose opinions were surveyed about their needs and aspirations in new job opportunities that could be provided to people with disabilities. He stressed that there are mechanisms for accepting trainees, the most prominent of which is the age, which ranges between 21-40. About 300 people are trained to improve skills of information technology and other fields required by the labor market. After the end of the training period that will take place in the governorates of Egypt, whether in Upper Egypt or Lower Egypt, an employment forum will be organized for these trainees to accommodate them in new job opportunities.

Megahed explained that this program is considered the starting point, and work will be done to double the number of trainees with the aim of creating job opportunities for them outside Cairo and working to bridge the gap in employment in several fields.

He said that EiTESAL is working to expand and increase the capabilities of companies. This is done by raising the efficiency of the companies’ employees and training them at the highest professional level, especially that the technology sector is the most capable of accommodating people with disabilities in terms of working with companies in the fields of programming and others through technical training.

Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, said that the ministry is working to build a digital future for people with disabilities by devoting communication and information technology tools to help, integrate and empower them effectively.

The Minister of Communications praised the technical training initiative in the field of information technology for persons with disabilities. The National Academy of Information Technology for Persons with Disabilities was also established in 2019 to support a comprehensive society for people with special abilities using technology and auxiliary tools. There is a headquarters for this academy in Knowledge City in the New Administrative Capital to be a center of excellence in the field of assistive technology. It aims to support research and development, train people with disabilities, qualify them technologically, and make them ready for the labor market.
