388 Egyptians emigrate in 2021, up from 184 in 2020: CAPMAS

388 Egyptians emigrate in 2021, up from 184 in 2020: CAPMAS

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) issued Wednesday the Annual Bulletin of Egyptians Who Obtained Approval for Emigration & Egyptians Acquired another Nationality in 2021.

Total number of Egyptians who obtained approval for emigration and acquired emigration status reached 388 emigrant in 2021 (126 obtained approval for emigration and 262 acquired emigration status), compared to 184 emigrants in 2020, with an increase of 110.9%, due to the decline of Covid-19 pandemic.

Of those, 312 are male, representing 80.4% (77 obtained approval for emigration by 19.8% and 235 acquired emigration status by 60.6%), and the rest 76 are female, representing 19.6% (49 obtained approval for emigration by 12.6% and 27 acquired emigration status by 7%).

The US received the largest number of Egyptian migrants in 2021, up to 155 (40%), followed by Italy with 125 emigrants (32.2%), and then Canada with 89 migrants (23%).

The age group (40 – 44 years) came first in terms of the number of Egyptians who obtained approval for emigration and those who acquired emigration status, with 83 migrants (21.4%).

Married couples category occupied the largest share of the number of Egyptians who obtained approval for emigration and those who acquired emigration status, with 261 emigrants by 83.9% of total emigrants at marriage age (18 years old and above).

The private sector occupied the largest share of number of Egyptians obtained approval for emigration and those who acquired emigration status, with 261 Emigrant by 70.2%, followed by those who did not work, such as housewives, fresh graduates, and full-time students, with 102 emigrant by 27.4% of total emigrants at work age (6 years old and above)

The category of professionals has the largest share of number of Egyptians obtained approval for emigration and those who acquired emigration status reached 120 emigrants by 35.8%, followed by the category of Elementary occupations reaching 81 migrants with 24.2% of the total number of emigrant (15 years old and above).

Emigrants with university degrees ranked the first in terms of number of Egyptians obtained approval for emigration and those who acquired emigration status reached 137 emigrants by 38.2% of total emigrants at education age (10 years old and above).

Number of Egyptians who acquired foreign nationalities reached 3142 Egyptians in 2021, compared to 2611 Egyptians in 2020 with an increase of 20.3% of  (1779 Egyptians obtain naturalization permission while retaining the Egyptian citizenship by 56.6% and 1363 Egyptians who obtained naturalization permission while not retaining the Egyptian nationality by 43.4%).
