Egyptian actor Ahmed Ezz plays the role of an intelligence officer fighting terrorism in a dangerous and sensitive period under the Muslim Brotherhood’s rule, and the subsequent period.

He said: “I used to present one TV series every two years, but I changed my mind when I was offered the opportunity to participate in the “Al Ekhteyar”. I was very excited because I watched the previous seasons, and I felt the importance of documenting this sensitive period. As an artist, I fully believe that this is the role of art; help the public know and realize the facts and dangers that faced Egypt during that difficult period. In my opinion, this series succeeded in uniting the people around one topic, which is the safety and security of the homeland.

Ezz added: “I did not hesitate to accept the role. The series is full of talented actors, such as Ahmed El-Sakka, Karim Abdel Aziz, Khaled El-Sawy, Yasser Jalal, Ahmed Badir, Sabri Fawaz, Mahmoud El-Bazzawi, and many others. I am very proud of my participation in this series. The role I play is of Marwan, the General Intelligence officer, a serious and rich character. I really enjoyed the script that was written by Hani Sarhan. The success of the series was mainly the result of great effort and talent of director Peter Mimi.

Speaking about the importance of drama in raising awareness of people, Ezz said that art reflects the street and the era we live in. Egypt and Arab countries have gone through difficult times and obstacles, but emerged victoriously. The series shows what happened. The role of art is to convey the truth and the audience is the one who judges.

As for the rumors about the sensitivity of three stars working together in one series, Ezz said: “Frankly, we never felt this way, not only because of we realized the great responsibility we were bearing, but we also all realized that we are in an exceptional experience that focuses on an important stage in the history of Egypt.
