Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and his Jordanian counterpart Bisher Al-Khasawneh chaired on Monday the 30th session of the Egyptian-Jordanian Joint Higher Committee.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed means of strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries on the political, economic, trade exchange, transportation, education, agriculture, energy, specifications and standards, customs, and other levels.

Additionally, the preparatory meetings preceding the session were headed by Minister of International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat; Jordanian Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply Youssef Al-Shamali, along with other ministers.

Jordanian Ambassador to Cairo Amjad Al-Adayleh and Secretary-General of the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply in Jordan Dana Al-Zoubi also attended the meeting.

In her comments, Al-Mashat welcomed the delegation of the Jordanian government to their second country, Egypt, stressing the depth of relations between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in various economic, commercial, and investment fields and the desire of the two brotherly countries to make a qualitative leap in the process of bilateral cooperation in line with their national priorities and aspirations for further economic integration.

She also praised the results of the follow-up committee meeting held last week in the Jordanian capital, Amman, and the Jordanian side’s expression of constructive cooperation in preparing for the committee.

She explained that the periodic convening of the Egyptian-Jordanian Joint Higher Committee reflects the will and keenness of the political leadership in the two brotherly countries to continue strengthening and developing joint cooperation in a way that stimulates cooperation frameworks in various fields.

She pointed out that the 29th session of the Joint Higher Committee and the resulting cooperation documents — which were implemented over the past year — were a witness to the continuous progress of relations between the two countries, noting that within the framework of the Egyptian-Jordanian Higher Committee in its 30th session, preparations were made for a number of cocuments of cooperation in agricultural quarantining, higher education, scientific research, logistic areas, youths, and media.

She also stressed the keenness of her ministry to continuously follow up on what was agreed upon in an effort to implement it and reach the desired results, noting that the agenda of the Egyptian-Jordanian Joint Higher Committee and the discussions that took place between experts from both sides are rich in many topics and areas that represent a shift in relations between the two countries and a strengthening of joint efforts to achieve development and to strengthen cooperation between the private sector on both sides.

The volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Jordan during the first 11 months of last year amounted to $812m, 73% of which came from Egyptian exports.
