Egypt has received an additional 3 million-dose shipment of Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine from the United States. To date, the US has delivered 19.5 million high-quality vaccine doses to immunise the people of Egypt against COVID-19.

“Our two governments have been working together since the beginning of the pandemic to limit the spread of the virus,” US Ambassador to Cairo Jonathan Cohen said in his recent remarks at the World Youth Forum in Sharm El-Sheikh.

“This latest delivery highlights the Biden-Harris Administration’s continued commitment to share vaccines with the world and is even more important now as we confront together the challenges of new variants of the coronavirus.”

In addition to the vaccines, the US Government has provided more than $55m through USAID to support Egypt’s coronavirus response, reaching nearly 18 million people with assistance.

USAID programmes train healthcare workers, help deliver vaccines to the Egyptian people, improve tracking and response to the pandemic, and boost small businesses. This support builds on the more than $1bn the United States has invested in Egypt over the past 40 years to improve the health of all Egyptians.
