Egyptian Defence Minister Sedki Sobhi discussed mutual military interests with South Korean officials during his visit to Seoul on Tuesday, according to a statement by the Egyptian armed forces.

Two of Sobhi’s meetings were held with Song Young-moo, South Korea’s Minister of Defence, and Kang Kyung, the country’s Foreign Minister. The core agenda focused on strengthening military ties, as well as fostering regional and international developments, and fighting terrorism, the statement continued.

The visit was the first after a South Korean-Egyptian memorandum of understanding on defence cooperation was signed in March in Cairo between Mohamed Al-Assar, Egypt’s Minister of Military Production, and Korean officials.

The meetings came shortly after Egypt released a statement condemning North Korea’s nuclear tests, where the country denoted a hydrogen bomb—the largest so far—that led to a 6.3-magnitude earthquake.
