Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry participated on Tuesday in the international ministerial conference on the United Nations Ministerial Agency for Palestine Refusals (UNRWA), headed by Jordan and Sweden, in Brussels.

Minister Shoukry stressed in his speech the vital role of the Agency since its founding in 1949 in recruiting, relief and providing basic services to Palestinian refugee brothers.

This has contributed to improving the lives of millions of these refugees and mitigating the repercussions of their humanitarian situation, despite the many challenges the Agency has faced during those years.

Shoukry expressed the importance of securing Sustainable funding for UNRWA and its programs and the importance of continuing the contributions of major donors and an indispensable international community in order to enable the Agency to implement its noble mission,

He reiterated Egypt’s support for the agency and its role in serving Palestinian refugees, praising Jordan and Sweden’s initiative to call for this important conference.

In this regard, Minister Shoukry also addressed the importance of restoring the political horizon in pursuit of the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state and to achieve a just, lasting and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.

Shoukry thanked Jordan and Sweden for their joint presidency of the conference as well as Belgium for its successful hosting of its events, as well as to the UNRWA Secretariat and Commissioner-General for their continued efforts to support Palestinian refugees.
