Egypt’s Al-Sisi, S. Korea parliament speaker discuss bilateral relation, regional affairs

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi received, on Sunday, Park Byeong-seug, Speaker of the National Assembly of South Korea, to discuss bilateral relations, as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern. 

Speaker of Egypt’s House of Representatives, Hanafi El-Gabaly, and Korean Ambassador in Cairo, Hong Jin-wook, also attended the meeting. 

They discussed ways to enhance frameworks of joint bilateral cooperation in several sectors, as well as ways for Egypt to benefit from the Korean expertise in technological industries. 

According to the spokesperson of the presidency, the meeting also addressed topics related to the localisation of the electric vehicle industry and related industries in Egypt, in addition to cooperation in facing the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Both sides exchanged views on the most prominent developments in regional and international issues of common interest, foremost of which are the developments of the Libyan crisis and the Palestinian Cause, where the meeting witnessed consensus on all these issues. 

Furthermore, the Korean politician praised the Egyptian political weight as a cornerstone in maintaining security and stability in the Middle East and Africa, especially with regard to the Egyptian efforts and moves to reach a political settlement of crises in the region. 

He also hailed the recent Egyptian actions in the file of the peace process through stabilising calm between the Palestinian and Israeli sides and improving the humanitarian and living conditions of the Palestinians.

Moreover, Park conveyed to Al-Sisi the greetings of the South Korean President, stressing Korea’s pride at the official and popular levels in its close relations with Egypt, and its mutual interest in strengthening areas of bilateral cooperation. 

He particularly expressed interest in expanding Korean investments in Egypt to take advantage of its strategic location to launch into markets in Europe. As well as activating the comprehensive cooperative partnership in a way that suits the capabilities of the two countries and supports the transfer of the Korean development experience to Egypt.
