The crisis of banning Bluetooth-equipped devices in the Egyptian market has been resolved after an agreement was concluded between the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) and the Cairo Chamber of Commerce to this end.

Karim Ghoneim, Head of the Digital Economy and Technology Division at the Cairo Chamber of Commerce, said that after negotiations with NTRA, the authority allowed entry of the imported shipments of Bluetooth-equipped devices which arrived in Egyptian ports from 1 June to 15 August.

He added that it was agreed that importers register their companies on the NTRA’s website and submit required documents. In addition, samples from those shipments will be sent to specialised laboratories for examination.

Ghoneim further added that representatives of the Cairo Chambers of Commerce are currently negotiating with the Egyptian Customs Authority to define the procedures for taking samples and sending them to laboratories.

Meanwhile, Ghoneim thanked President of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce, Ibrahim Al-Araby, for his full support to solve this problem.

He stressed that any decision issued to organize the market will reflect positively on all parties in light of simplifying and facilitating the implementation procedures.

NTRA issued a decision in 2007 which stipulated that all shipments of wireless products arriving in Egyptian ports shall need an approval from the authority.
