The Supreme Committee of the Nile Water Flow, presided by Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aty, has reviewed the water situation in the country and mechanisms of water management to meet the demand of different sectors.

During the meeting on Sunday, Abdel Aty addressed means to maximise water resources during the period of high consumption rates, in order to meet irrigation needs in the agriculture season.

The minister pointed out that the committee is in a permanent session to follow up on rainfall rates, and to measure the quantities of water reaching the Aswan High Dam lake. The ministry increased the amount of water released from the lake to the Nile River to enhance the quality and quantity of water supply during August and September.

He stated that the ministry is making continuous efforts within the framework of a comprehensive vision aimed at providing the necessary water needs for all water-using sectors, both quantitatively and qualitatively, which will reflect positively on achieving sustainable development goals and providing services to beneficiaries with the highest degree of justice and effectiveness.

Abdel Aty stressed the need to continue raising the state of emergency in all departments of the ministry in the governorates to follow up water levels in canals and drains, and to ensure the readiness of the bridge sectors to confront any emergency, and the readiness of all stations, electrical feeding lines feeding them, and emergency units.

Interestingly, the Irrigation Minister highlighted the need to monitor all forms of encroachments on the Nile River, canals and drains, with immediate and decisive response to such encroachments and removing them in coordination with the concerned state agencies.
