Emirates NBD- Egypt has announced it will be providing EGP 2bn to an alliance of four construction companies for the establishment of the largest agricultural wastewater treatment plant in the North Coast.

The bank’s mission is to support developmental projects in Egypt. The new plant will supply treated water to irrigate reclaimed lands in the West Delta Region with a capacity of 6 million cubic metres per day. The alliance consists of Arab Contractors, Orascom Construction, Hassan Allam Construction, and Metito Water Treatment Group.

Emirates NBD-Egypt continues to offer its financial services to the construction sector, in line with the bank’s policy to take on a pivotal role in national infrastructure projects, especially those related to land reclamation and new urban community development.

The project will as well include the construction of a 120 km waterway to transport agricultural drainage from Delta Governorates to the Al-Hammam plant. The desalinated water is designated to irrigate more than 500,000 feddan of reclaimed land, part of the “New Delta” national project.

“We are really pleased with the strategic cooperation between major construction companies to build such a large scale agricultural drainage plant. As a leading bank, we solemnly believe in our responsibility to support the Egyptian Government’s plans through providing funding for infrastructure projects,” said Mohamed Berro, CEO, Emirates NBD-Egypt.

“We are confident that this project will make way for new rural communities in the Western Desert, thus guaranteeing sustainable development, and ultimately benefiting the national economy,” Berro added.
