As part of its growing efforts to support the Egyptian community and its dedicated initiatives to support the health institutions to confront the Coronavirus pandemic repercussions, Orange Egypt announced its contribution to renew and develop the only pediatric section in the Egypt that treats children with tuberculosis and thoracic diseases at El Abbassia Chest Hospital by donating the costs of the project to replace, develop and renovate its pediatric section in cooperation with Maxim Foundation.

This initiative that Orange took aims to reduce the burden incurred by the hospital as it was one of the first hospitals to receive COVID-19 patients and thus Orange worked on developing and equipping the entire pediatric section which included only 20 beds in two sections on an area of 90 meters, and 5 beds in a tuberculosis unit.

The development process included increasing the number of beds in order to be able to receive more children and has also included an entire change and renovation of the toilets as well as the establishment of other separate new ones at some suites in addition to repainting internal and external walls of the pediatric section along with installing new floors and wall ceramics as well as providing the section with air conditioners and medical equipment. Moreover, surveillance network was installed to facilitate the monitoring and the observation of the health care operations.

And out of its belief in the rights of the Egyptian citizen, especially children, to obtain integrated health and psychological care, Orange Egypt worked on establishing a rest area for the children’s families that is supported with essential amenities to support the parents in accompanying their children throughout their treatment journey.

Along the sidelines of Orange renewal efforts to El Abbassia Chest Hospital, the Students of Faculty of Specific Education, Art Department at Ain Shams University participated in decorating the rest area for the children’s families as part of their community role towards the society as well as being part of their graduation project.

Commenting on this occasion, Hala Abdel Wadood, Head of Public Relations, Corporate Social Responsibility & Quality Management at Orange Egypt, expressed her pleasure with the success of this initiative, as it will be completed soon according to the required specifications.

“Orange Egypt is always blessed to passionately participate in Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, which cause a long-term impact on supporting the Egyptian society and its various segments. Accordingly, we immediately agreed on contributing to develop, renovate and furnish the pediatric section at Al Abbassia Chest Hospital. We are proud of the achieved results, which changed the healthcare system in the hospital for the better.” Abdel Wadood elaborated.

She explained “We also aimed, through this charitable initiative, to shed light on the numerous needs of hospitals, which may not be directly related to coronavirus; however, they are affected by it. The means of supporting hospitals at the present time are entirely focused on confronting the pandemic, and the government agencies and charitable institutions who are keen to promote the hospitals capabilities to combat COVID-19 repercussions, which may lead to some gaps in other health sections and here we believe in our role to fill this gap and to lessen the burden incurred by hospitals and health institutions, and supporting such hospitals to face coronavirus”.
