Egypt to receive 20 million Sputnik, 20 million Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines

The Egyptian Government announced, on Wednesday, that it will receive 20 million doses of Russia’s Sputnik vaccine against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), in addition to a further 20 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

At its weekly meeting, headed by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, the cabinet decided to reopen public beaches, provided that visitors adhere to precautionary measures against the virus.

With regard to government workers, Madbouly said that the number of employees will be reduced. Meanwhile, workers at all tourism facilities will be vaccinated against the coronavirus, especially those working in the Red Sea and South Sinai governorates.

During the meeting, it was stressed that the precautionary measures should be implemented decisively during the upcoming exams at all education facilities nationwide. There should be an emphasis on allowing international school students to attend class until the end of this month only.


The government added that the remainder of this academic year’s  educational process will be completed remotely in schools, starting from June.

It added that shopping malls, stores, cafes, and restaurants will continue to close at 9pm, until the end of May.
