Egypt’s Minister of International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat, has met with Elena Banova, the new United Nations Resident Coordinator in Egypt, to discuss preparatory steps for the next phase of cooperation between the two sides.

During the virtual meeting on Thursday, Minister Al-Mashat congratulated Banova on her appointment, and stressed that Egypt always sought to govern multilateral cooperation through the principles of economic diplomacy; which are the joint coordination, matching development finance with the sustainable development goals, and international partnerships.

She affirmed, during the meeting, the Ministry of International Cooperation’s commitment to a comprehensive, transparent, and effective dialogue to guide the work during the remaining period of the strategic framework of the partnership with the United Nations.

For her part, Banova said that economic development in Egypt has attracted the attention of the international community, especially in these difficult times, adding that the low unemployment and poverty rates in Egypt tells the story of a “successful and continuous” reform programme.

Banova added, “We have a reliable partnership with Egypt, and since the country appreciates cooperation with the United Nations, I am optimistic that we, as the United Nations, have a role to play after this excellent performance for Egypt.”
