Telecom Egypt (TE) has announced its collaboration with software and IT technology companies, IBM and Red Hat, to develop telecom networks and accelerate digital transformation.

This boost to digital transformation and its operation will come through using a hybrid cloud based on the open source strategy.

This cooperation comes as part of TE’s growth strategy by developing and updating the infrastructure to provide computing services, infrastructure services and software services. The company will do so in a way that contributes to meeting the changing and accelerating requirements of customers.

In a press release on Tuesday, TE’s Managing Director and CEO Adel Hamed said the cooperation emphasises his company’s strategy towards modernising the infrastructure and providing customers with the best services.

He added that the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has prompted all institutions to reconsider and change their business system.

TE has chosen IBM Cloud Pak for Automation to develop the company’s network performance, and provide its customers with reliable services throughout this period. It recognises that demand on telecom networks has almost doubled since the start of the pandemic.

At the same time, TE has taken on IBM and a group of its business partners to establish the first modern data centre allowing connection with all global marine cables transiting Egypt.

IBM and its partners have designed, built, and provided management and maintenance services of the project to establish a technically flexible data centre for TE.

It has taken into consideration the factors required for the project, such as designing and setting up electrical power networks, panels, generators, and cooling systems. It has also taken into account environmental control monitoring, and other logistical and technical matters.

The new data centre is expected to be TE’s main platform for providing cloud computing services across the region. The new platform will also allow hosting local and international companies by providing modern services with the highest levels of technical flexibility.
