Tourism Ministry donates 19th Century postal transport vehicle to CIT Ministry

Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has donated a 19th Century postal delivery vehicle to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

The vehicle, which was brought into use in 1870, was used for transporting postal items, and was among the artefacts housed by the Royal Vehicles Museum. The vehicle will now join the Egyptian Postal Museum as a loaned item.

This gift was agreed upon during an inspection visit to the museum, undertaken last month by the two ministers.

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat thanked his counterpart at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, Khaled Al-Anani, for the donation.

The Egyptian Postal Museum houses many treasures and rare collectibles that highlight the development of Egypt’s postal system and its services. Talaat added that modern technologies have been relied on to develop the displays of collections, and presenting them in a way that visitors can interact with.

The antique postal vehicle was used to receive mail from train stations and transport them to small cities. They could be found in use across England in 1880, where they were intended to transport luggage and mail belonging to the king.
