Egypt’s Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait has agreed to extend the submissions period for real estate tax returns nationwide until the end of next March.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Ministry said the extension will apply to all established properties.

The ministry said that the extension aims to make procedures easier for citizens and prevent crowding at offices, in line with the application of precautionary measures against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The original period for submitting tax returns for built properties was originally set from July until the end of December 2020.

Maait called on those subject to the real estate tax to go to the concerned authorities to submit their tax returns as soon as possible. They must do so while adhering to the precautionary measures against the coronavirus.

Anwar Fawzy, head of the Real-Estate Tax Authority (RTA), said that the tax returns for established real estate properties includes new real estate, as well as parts that have been added to previously registered real estate.

It also applies to those real estate units that have undergone some adjustments, and which may have changed their features or purpose in a way that affected their rental value.

Fawzy called on taxpayers to speedily pay the real estate taxes they owe for their units, in order to benefit from advantages provided in the late tax payment law.
