Egyptian student Shams Abdullah Ali Ragab Mohamed has won second prize in the Global Video Blogging Contest, “My Life My Yoga”, to mark International Yoga Day. She won under the category of Female Youth.

As part of the celebrations, India’s Ministry of AYUSH conducted the global contest to encourage Yoga practitioners worldwide to share their experiences with the ancient practice.

Every year, thousands of people celebrate the International Day of Yoga on 21 June, gathering to practice Yoga in public places.

However, in 2020 no mass gathering was possible due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Hence, this year the ministry encouraged people to practice Yoga at home and with the participation of their entire family.

Through the “My Life, My Yoga” video blogging competition, the Ministry of AYUSH looks to raise awareness about Yoga, and to inspire people to prepare for and become active participants in Yoga Day.

The contest supported participation via the Indian Government’s official website and social media platforms on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram. The video contest was open to participants all over the world, and elicited an overwhelming response with 39,866 entries received from 130 countries.

The Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture at the Embassy of India in Egypt organised the nationwide competition of “My Life My Yoga Video Blogging Contest” in Egypt on 20 June. It received 26 participants, of whom 11 were  selected as country-level winners in different categories.
