Egypt’s wholly state-owned oil production company, the General Petroleum Company (GPC), has achieved record crude oil production levels of over 62,000 bpd for the first time in its history.

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Tarek El-Molla, said that the company’s record production achievement reflects its success in implementing an integrated work plan at its various field sites.

The GPC, which was established in 1957, currently works at various sites across Egypt, namely in the Eastern and Western Desert regions, the Gulf of Suez, and Sinai. It’s production success also comes despite the challenges due to the ongoing novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and the exceptional circumstances the health crisis has created.

The company’s implemented work programme aims to intensify its various production activities, such as new exploration operations, the development of existing fields, as well as the sinking of new wells.

The GPC has also been working on developing the necessary infrastructure to sustain production operations and maximise their exploitation. This comes alongside an interest in raising the company’s efficient performance in safety and environmental protection.
