President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has said that “things are under control” in the state’s fight against the coronavirus (Covid-19). Al-Sisi further praised the efforts made by the government and armed forces to curb its spread.

In a speech on Tuesday during his inspection of the armed forces preparations to combat the virus, Al-Sisi urged Egyptians to commit to the state’s measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus. He added that this ensure the government avoids taking stricter measures that would led to a complete nationwide lockdown.

Al-Sisi said that combating the coronavirus represents a joint effort between the government and citizens, adding that Egypt can overcome this challenge through the cooperation of its people.

In the meantime, Al-Sisi applauded military efforts to contain the coronavirus, adding that all state bodies are involved in the fight against the pandemic.

Al-Sisi added that “the great success of the economic reforms programme has helped in the fight against the coronavirus.” Meanwhile, he stressed his appreciation for Egypt’s healthcare workers and their efforts in the fight against the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

Al-Sisi asserted that Egypt’s private sector should never reduce the wages of its workers, pledging to support the sector in this matter by any means necessary. “We have not reduced the wages of state employees and the private sector is part of the state and should not do this,” he said.
