Egypt’s Health Minister arrives in Italy with medical supplies

Egypt’s Health Minister Hala Zayed arrived in Italy on Saturday with medical supplies to help Rome in its fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. 

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi ordered two military aircraft with medical and disinfection supplies for Italy, according to a presidential statement released on Saturday.  

Also on Saturday, Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Luigi Di Maio thanked Egypt for its aid in a video published via his Facebook account. 

“The Egyptian flight has just landed with medical aid for Italy,” Di Maio wrote on Facebook.

Earlier, he wrote on Twitter that Egypt will send two flights with aid, while Ukraine will send one flight with medical supplies.

“Thanks to those who are helping Italy. We are not alone,” he tweeted. 

On Friday, Egypt’s Ministry of Health reported 120 coronavirus infections and eight fatalities, including one foreigner and seven Egyptians, the highest daily average in the country to date. Egypt’s total number of confirmed cases has reached 985 and 66 deaths.
