Remittances in Egypt reach $26.8bn in 2019: CBE

The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) said remittances of Egyptian expats increased by $1.3bn (5% growth) to $26.8bn in 2019, compared to $25.5bn in 2018.

The CBE added that remittances in the second half (2H) of 2019 surged by about $1.6bn to $13.7bn, compared to $12.1bn in the corresponding period in 2018.

Last December, the Egyptian remittances reached $2.6bn up from $2.2bn in December 2018, an increase of $437.1m.

Remittances are the most prominent foreign exchange resource for Egypt, as the country ranks among top remittances recipients in the world.
