Cairo hosts CAF Champions League quarter-finals draw Wednesday

All eyes are on Cairo as it hosts the quarter-final draw of the CAF Champions League on Wednesday, in the presence of qualified clubs’ representatives.

The group stage in the competition ended on Saturday with eight teams qualifying for the quarter-finals, including six Arab teams.

The CAF Champions League’s quarter-finalists are Al Ahly SC and Zamalek SC from Egypt; Espérance Sportive de Tunis and Étoile Sportive du Sahel from Tunisia; Wydad AC and Raja AC from Morocco; Congolese TP Mazembe; and South African holders Mamelodi Sundowns.

All the eight clubs had been crowned before champions of Africa, with a total of 29 titles. Al Ahly leads the list with eight titles, followed by Zamalek (five), Mazembe (five), Espérance (four), Raja (three), Wydad (two), Sundowns (one), and Étoile du Sahel (one).

Al Ahly ranked second in Group B with 11 points, while Étoile du Sahel ranked first with 12 points. Sudan’s Al-Hilal came third with 10 points, while FC Platinum tailed the group with one point.

Zamalek made its path after ranking second in Group A with nine points, while Mazembe topped the group with 14 points. C.D. Primeiro de Agosto ranked third with four points, while ZESCO United tailed the ranks with three points.
