An Irish trade mission of eight companies working in dairy production will visit Egypt this week to discuss cooperation with Egyptian counterparts.
Tara McCarthy, CEO of Bord Bia – Irish Food Board, said there were several basic factors in Ireland that contributed to the development of the dairy sector and made it internationally recognised. Among these factors are grazing strategies based on natural grass, dairy processing in a competitive and innovative way, and strict regulations and controls for food safety.
Ireland is a reliable European supplier and has internationally recognised credentials in the areas of food safety, security, and sustainability. The visit of the Irish delegation to Egypt aims to exchange expertise on how to develop the sector and look for strategic partnerships.
As part of the visit, the Irish Bord Bia will participate in the first Egyptian dairy forum, which aims to focus on developing long-term business relationships between Irish and Egyptian food manufacturers.
Egypt’s local production of milk increased to 6.695m tonnes, according to the report of the livestock and poultry sector issued by the Ministry of Agriculture.
Regular cattle farms output 733,800 tonnes of dairy, while small and medium farms produced 3.021m tonnes, and domestic rearing of livestock produced 2.9m tonnes of milk.
According to the livestock report, Egypt has a national plan to increase dairy production in the coming period, as it is an important food component for all ages, contributing to improving the dietary pattern of citizens.
