The Red Sea Ports Authority announced on Wednesday the closure of Sharm El-Sheikh Maritime Port in South Sinai due to bad weather.

In a statement, the authority clarified that the wind’s intensity reached 19 southwestern knots, and the waves have reached heights at about 2 to 3 meters, while the air pressure is 1009 degrees, and the sea state is very turbulent.

All marine activities were stopped in all small and large units of the port in order to preserve the safety of maritime navigation.

For his part, Chairperson of the Red Sea Ports Authority Khaled Zahran directed the port managers to take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of navigation signs at the port’s entrances and exits.

The authority is following-up with the Meteorological Authority regarding the climate map to ensure the safety of maritime navigation and the activation of operating rooms in the ports to face potential risks. They also halted marine activities in order to preserve the safety of lives and private and public property.

Meanwhile, the authority of fishing port in Borollos Tower closed the port for the second day on Wednesday because of the wind strength which barred boats from shipping in the Mediterranean Sea.

Egypt is currently facing a cold wave accompanied with winds and bad weather, particularly in the coastal regions on the Mediterranean and Red Seas. The Egyptian Meteorological Authority warned of expected heavy rains and active winds on the Egyptian coasts.
