Egypt’s Al-Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed El-Tayeb met on Friday with Pope Francis in the Vatican and discussed joint efforts to achieve human prosperity.

They discussed enhancing cooperation to spread tolerance, the principles of human brotherhood, and the culture of living together.

The meeting aimed to achieve the goals of the Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together document which was signed this February in Abu Dhabi.

During the meeting, Pope Francis said that major religious institutions have a significant responsibility to spread the values of peace, goodness, and love.

Pope Francis added that the document is a guideline to all those who believed in humanity and represents a call to renounce violence and extremism.

Earlier, El-Tayeb took part in a religious summit on promoting child dignity in the digital world in Rome, where he called for tackling the destructive effects of the technology revolution and protecting child dignity.

The conference is held under the auspices of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Pope Francis, and the Grand Imam.

About 80 religious figures, specialists in economy and psychology, as well as representatives from organisations specialised in eliminating violence against children attended the conference which was held on 14-15 November.
