Egypt’s tourism sector to grow 30% by year-end: Minister

Egypt’s tourism sector is expected to grow by 30% by the end of 2019, in light of the boom of tourist arrivals to Egypt during the last period, according to the Minister of Tourism Rania Al-Mashat.

The year 2018 was very good for the Egyptian tourism sector, the minister added during an interview with Bloomberg.

Al-Mashat said the recovery experienced in the sector was significant and was moving in a positive direction. She explained that the tourism sector is very important to the Egyptian economy, representing 15% of the GDP.

Regarding the bankruptcy of Thomas Cook, Al-Mashat said it will not only affect Egypt, but the entire global tourism.

Meanwhile, she referred to Egypt’s efforts over the past few years to diversify its target markets. Al-Mashat added that British tourists represent 55% of the total tourist arrivals from Europe to Egypt.
