Government allocates EGP 500m for Marina Alamein’s Development

Taamir company for Development and Tourism Management Chairperson and Former Tourism Minister, Hisham Zaazou, said that the government represented in New Urban Communities Authority has allocated approximately EGP 500m in fiscal year 2018/19 for the development of Marina City’s infrastructure.

In a press conference on Monday, Zaazou added that the revenue of maintenance fees by Marina’s owners is worth about EGP 60m annually for the development of street landscaping, planting the city, street lighting, and other services for the city’s three-year plan.

Regarding agriculture of the spaces in the city, he elaborated that the company plans to plant 300 feddan out of the total city’s size which is 1,000 feddan, adding “We have already begun planting this area through digging about 350-370 wells for irrigation as well as using treated sewage water.”

Additionally, the company began a plan to make use of some assets of the city, such as leasing or renting some beaches as well as developing open beaches for owners free of charge, in cooperation with some sponsors, such as Bank Misr and the National Bank of Egypt, he explained.

Moreover, Taamir is currently negotiating with several government agencies to initiate new activities namely, entertainment, sports, and other tourism activities, including operating the Romanian Theatre in Marina. This would be an attempt to make the theatre a cultural platform in the North Coast as a whole. 

Furthermore, it is studying cooperating with the ministry of youth and sports and both parties are preparing for a cooperation protocol to hold sports activities in Marina in both the summer and winter. Essentially, infrastructure in Marina makes it eligible for holding sports championships.

They are planning to hold marathons such as the Sheikh Zayed Marathon and they are also studying the possibility of starting a yacht club.

Marina City includes nine hotels with a capacity of 400 rooms and 10% of these hotels are managed by Taamir Company, as well as 280 shops and 8,600 residential units, according to Zaazou.
