Egypt condemns Kabul terror attack

Al-Azhar calls for exerting greater international efforts to combat terror groups

Egypt condemned Saturday the terror attack on a police checkpoint in the Afghan capital Kabul, carried out  by the Taliban, which killed 100 and injured 158 others, according to a statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The statement asserted that Egypt stands with the Afghan government and people in the fight against terrorism, sending the Egyptian government and people’s condolences to victims’ relatives and expressing wihes for speedy recoveries for those who were injured in the attack.

The ministry added that such terror attacks are conducted by groups that claim to belong to Islam, however, they are far from Islam’s peaceful teachings. Terror groups target stability and security of Afghanistan and will not achieve their purpose, according to the statement.

Moreover, Al-Azhar condemned the terror attack and stressed the inviolability of blood, saying that these actions contradict Islam’s teachings. In a statement, Al-Azhar called for countering terrorism, which it says threatens the whole world.

The situation requires exerting greater international efforts to combat terror groups, the Al-Azhar statement added.

Al-Azhar is the highest seat of Sunni Muslim learning and the second oldest degree-granting institution in the world.
