Egyptian court orders to dissolve Egyptian Football Association

The court said that elections were not honestly reflecting the will of the general assembly

A Cairo administrative court ordered to dissolve the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) on Sunday. The court also ordered the delay of announcing the result of EFA’s elections, which occurred on 30 August.

The court stated that it issued the exclusion of Hazem El-Hawary and his sister Sahar El-Hawary, a decision that the EFA’s administration did not obey. The EFA permitted for both to take part in the elections, which is against the law.

The court added that elections were not honestly reflecting the will of the general assembly. Thus the EFA’s executive director will remain as the charge d’affaires until a temporary council is assigned or new elections take place.

The Minister of Youth and Sports Khaled Abdel Aziz, who was attending an international conference for anti-doping in Switzerland, said that “after the court decision to dissolve the EFA, presided over by Hany Abo Reida, we respect the court’s decisions and the ministry is committed to implement its orders. We also expect the EFA to proceed with the legal procedures.”
