Mayar Hany and Nouran El-Torky both competed at the Victorian Open 2016, which took place in Melbourne, Australia from 3-7 August. The prize money for the competition was $10,000.

Hany and El-Torky both qualified for the semifinals after Hany defeated Belgian Nele Gilis (8-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-9, for a final score of 3-1), and El-Torky won against Japanese Misaki Kobayashi (11-5, 11-6, 7-11, 11-9, for a final score 3-1) in the quarterfinals.

Unfortunately, both Egyptian athletes exited the tournament in the semifinals. Hany lost to England’s Millie Tomlinson after a hard match (11-3, 12-10, 3-11, 9-11, 11-7, for 3-2 as the final score). El-Torky lost to Indian Dipika Pallikal Karthik (11-4, 11-4, 11-2, for the final score 3-0).

Hany did not miss the chance to participate in the Australian Open 2016, which was also held in Melbourne from 8-12 August. She managed to reach the finals in this competition.

She also lost to Karthik (12-10, 5-11, 6-11, 4-11, for a final match score of 3-1).

Hany was not the only Egyptian participating in the Australian Open 2016, as El-Torky and Hana Ramadan also competed there.

Ramadan was defeated by Kathik in the semifinals (11-6, 6-11, 7-11, 4-11, and final score 3-1).

El-Torky lost to her compatriot, Ramadan, in the quarterfinals, (11-8, 5-11, 7-11, 15-13, 6-11, for the final score of 3-2) although the match began with the former seeming as if she’d come out on top.
