South Cairo Electricity Distribution Company (SCEDC) signed contracts to buy electricity from 24 solar power plants.

A source at SCEDC said that the total capacity is estimated at 1,183 KW, adding that reciprocity metres have been installed to measure the energy produced valuable preparation for issuing checks worth of energy purchased.

The source said that SCEDC agreed with several companies to install small power plants on rooftops, including the Arab Organization for Industrialization, Onera Systems, and Banha Company for Electronic Industries.

Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy plans to produce 300 MW from the small solar power plants in the first phase—via the feed-in tariff system—and 1,000 in the second phase.

The source said that SCEDC studies and examines all the paperwork once it receives request to establish a solar power plant. Should all documents fit SCEDC standards, both parties sign an agreement for SCEDC to buy output electricity and offer technical support to the project.

He noted that the company received 50 applications and proposals from investors and private institutions to install small power plants on their rooftops with capacity ranging between 30 and 200 KW/Hour.
